Pet's info: Dog | Irish Terrier | Female | 7 years and 11 months old | 30 lbs
Our dog came back from a week at dog day care with a slight cut on her nose. We've been cleaning it and using antiseptic, but it appears to have swollen a bit. It's been like this for two weeks). We're about to head out of town for a few days and want to know if we should be getting her antibiotics or do something else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! - Jonathan

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you have provided, I would suspect this to be a skin tumor. It looks to be benign and similar to what we call a sebaceous adenoma. It may have been much smaller previously and if it was bumped or traumatized may have grown in size due to inflammation. If this is bleeding and does not go down in size, I would suggest having it removed. Many of these can be frozen off with cryo treatment that many vet clinics provide as a service. I would have this looked at by your veterinarian to discuss having it removed. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am also available via consultation if needed.

It appears that Murphy has a small growth on his muzzle that perhaps was traumatized and is now sore/bleeding. I would clean the area with a mild soap or antiseptic such as Hibiclens and apply an antibiotic ointment like neosporin twice a day, and make an appointment for when you get back in town to have your vet examine the area and determine if the mass needs to be removed.
