My cat threw up clear liquid, acts normal, but meows more. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 months and 13 days old

Good evening! My Felix just threw up a transparent liquid. It looked like normal saliva, still it got me worried. My cat never threw up except for 2 other times, this being the third. The last time this happened was a couple months ago! His appetite is normal, the only thing that's new is that he has been meowing more than normal this past month and a half.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think if Felix is eating normally and acting normal this morning then continue to watch him. If he continues to vomit then have him sen by your Vet. Cats do vomit occasionally. Sometimes when cats cough they can bring up clear liquid as well. So if you didn't see him vomit he could have coughed. The most common cause of coughing in cats is feline asthma. Causes of vomiting are: hairballs, ate something that is disagreeing with him, foreign body ingestion, intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, food sensitivities. I hope this helps and that Felix doesn't vomit anymore!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor BabyCat! He does have a lot of underlying issues but it likely has nothing to do with vomiting one time. Cats tend to vomit. Normal vomiting is about once every 3 months. Anything more than that, even hairballs and from eating too fast, isn't normal. I would watch him closely today. Be sure he is eating and urinating and not having diarrhea. Watch his activity level to see if he is lethargic. If he continues to vomit, isn't eating by tomorrow then I would take him to the Vet for an exam and possible blood work and X-rays. Causes of vomiting in a young cat are: intestinal parasites, foreign body ingestion, food allergy or intolerance, pancreatitis, ate something gross or underlying intestinal inflammation. I hope this helps and I wish BabyCat the best!
