Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 11 lbs
My healthy adult cats and my 6 month old kitten were exposed to giardia that my fosters have. I clean the litter box frequently. What are the chances that my adult cats will actually get giardia? And what's the incubation period?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about your situation. The chances are unknown and many factors determine whether a pet gets infected clinically or not. The dose of the organism, the health of the pet, the number of times they get exposed, etc. Your adult cats and all other pets in the household are potentially at risk of developing clinical giardiasis. The incubation period is anywhere from 5 - 16 days and reinfection is common. The other thing to remember is that all giardia infections can pass to people so please be extremely careful when dealing with the fosters and your pets. You should consult your veterinarian for more advice and you may have to treat all of your pets at the same time to ensure that reinfection or cross contamination do not occur. Good luck with Morpheus and your crew.
