My cat had only one kitten. Is a single kitten litter normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 0 lbs

My cat only had one kitten and I'm worried that's not normal. Kitten and mother seem fine. Only found the kitten today as I was cleaning out my wardrobe so unsure as to when it was born. Any advice? Thanks

Single kitten litters can certainly be normal, particularly for younger cats. Be sure that Millie is nursing her kitten regularly, stimulating the kitten to pee and poop by licking her hind end, and keeping the kitten in a confined, safe area. If Millie is not caring for her kitten, this link has some great tips on helping to care for kittens: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=576.
