My abandoned kitten isn't peeing or pooping. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed

My friend found an abandoned kitten, it seems about a week old or so. I bought baby kitten formula and its been drinking it but it hasn't peed or pooped yet. It was found last night with no mother around. Is there anything I can do or anything to help me with this?

I would guess Miracle is about 3 weeks old. Use a warm wet cotton ball to gently mimic the mother cat cleaning to genital area. The stimulation will usually get the kittens to potty. With the next week or so, they will usually start going on there own. Make sure to add a little water. Formula can sometimes cause constipation. You may also offer some Royal Canin Baby Cat canned food. Smear it on her lips. They usually like it!

Look st those sweet kittens. You are doing a good job. Make sure you are feeding every 2-3 hours. Make sure you use warm water to help stimulate them to pee and poop. The bowel movements may take a few days to happen but yes, this should happen soon. You may also try a wash cloth to help stimulate them as well. I hope this helps!
