Help! My cat suddenly stopped pooping in his litter box. What to do?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 11 lbs

Hello. My 2 yr old cat has recently developed a bad bathroom habit. He has almost completely stopped pooping in his litter box and now prefers a corner of my room. He never had a problem the 2 years I've had him. I've tried fresh litter. Ive tried taking the top off his enclosed litter box. I've disciplined him immediately after the event. I've cleaned the carpet where he likes to go. Nothing seems to be working. The only thing I can think of is he is angry about something. Please help !

Sorry Minx is causing some issues. It sounds like you've done a lot of the things we would normally recommend. Here are a few more suggestions. 1) add another litter box 2) put a litter box where he is defecating 3) try Cat Attract litter 4) if all else fails, confine him to a small room with his food, water, litter and bed to 're-train' him to use the litter box. If these all fail I recommend him being seen by a veterinarian to make sure there isn't a medical condition.
