My dog is vomiting and tired. What should I do to help her at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My dog, Yorkie/Bichon mix 3yo, has vomited multiple times today, at first she was running and playing, but after the second time she became tired and weary and has a warm dry nose. I began fasting her, but am not sure if there is anything else I can do to help.

I'm sorry CoCo isn't feeling well! You are doing the right thing by fasting her, and I would do that for 12-24. After this time, feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
