Why is my dog still scratching after trying hypoallergenic food?

My deg is constantly scratching himself all day long, non stop, already tried changing to hypoallergenic food and that didn't help. What else can I do? Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

First you need to make sure it is not a flea problem. That is typically the main thing that will make a scratch. Next I would use a medicated shampoo - one containing chlorhexidine or some type of antifungal. I'm not sure what is available in your country. Finally, you can give him some antihistamines for a few days to see if that helps. Again, not sure what you have available to you. These are human medications. You can get any one of these from the pharmacy - diphenhydramine, loratitide, hydroxyzine, chlorpheniramine.
