My dog is itching, licking, chewing. How to help before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 3 months and 30 days old | 100 lbs

My dog is itching, licking and chewing herself frequently the past two days. I'm thinking she has allergies caused by her diet. Is there anything I can do to comfort her till I can get her in to see the vet?

I hate to hear Lucy is uncomfortable. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You can give an antihistamine though these tend to not be as effective for food allergies. You can wash any lesions once a day (not her whole body, just the lesions). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Have erm examined by the veterinarian when they can get her in for better treatment. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
