My young kitten won't clean her butt after pooping. What do I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My kitten is separated from her mom. Her mom left her and she is the only cat in my house. And she doesn't lick her butt after pooping. I tried to wipe with a wet cotton sometimes so she could get irritated and lick that part. I dont know what to do anymore. Do you have any tips?

You will need to keep your kitten clean until she is old enough to do it herself. Use a hypoallergenic baby wipe or pet wipe and clean her anus after every bowel movement. Make sure to wipe upwards towards her tail and NOT downward toward her genitals (this could lead to an infection). Please feel free to post any additional questions.
