My dog has red marks on groin after park. Are they bug bites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 64 lbs

My dog played with another dog at the park today. Now both dogs have these red marks resembling bites only around their groins. My dog and cat are on flea medication. Should I be concerned? What is this? Do I need to schedule a vet visit or will the bites clear up on their own? He does not seem bothered by them at all.

The most common reason that we will see marks like that show up on the non-haired skin of the abdomen are because of black fly or other insect bites. They do not generally tend to be itchy, but they can be. If any of the areas are becoming swollen, enlarging or appearing to spread, then Meeko should see your veterinarian. Otherwise, the areas tend to fade on their own. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
