Could my puppy's bloated belly and rubbery poop mean tapeworms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 17 days old

I just bought my puppy from a lady and I think she has worms, but I can't tell. I've checked her stool and the only thing I've found is something that varies in size and has a rubbery type consistency. She stays bloated, but in the morning, shes not as bloated. Could she have a tapeworm?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach, and congratulations on your new puppy! A bloated tummy appearance in puppies can be due to a variety of reasons, including parasites like you listed, a very full stomach from eating, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having a fecal sample analyzed to determine if she does have a parasite, and if so, can start on an appropriate treatment to get rid of it. Congratulations again!
