Unfortunately the photo did not come. The most common lip problems in cats are eosinophilic granulomas. They cause a red, ulcerated thickened area in the lip, usually the lower one. The treatment usually includes a long acting steroid injection. These can recur and are thought to be immune mediated or caused by stress. Please try to resend the photo if this description isn’t what you are referring to. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Leo.

The lip ulcer (eosinophilic ulcer, indolent ulcer, rodent ulcer) is part of a complex of disease called ECG (Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex). The lip ulcer found on the upper lip of cats. Diagnosis is based on clinical appearance as well as histopathology. The main cause of the indolent lip ulcer are allergies ( flea allergy, food allergy and atopic dermatitis-environmental) ; when these are controlled, the lip lesion resolves. So first thing keep good anti flea routine. When lip ulcer already present treatment with steroids will usually resolve it unless the wound has become infected, in which case antibiotic therapy will probably be necessary.
