Why is my dog vomiting yellow liquid and food? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 35 lbs

My dog is a chow chow sheepdog mix. She weighs 35 pounds. This morning she vomited 3 times, each time there was yellow liquid and pieces of food. She drank a little water, but none since the last instance.

Poor Girl! I would try to rest her tummy - no food and only small amounts of water for a few hours. I would then offer her a small amount of plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken breast and white rice to see if she can keep this down. If she continues to vomit or if she is refusing to eat, I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet make want to do a fecal, blood work, and/or x-rays. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better really soon!
