my dog had abcess of anal gland and surgery done to express the left one. now he is incontinent of his bowels and surgery was almost 1 wk tomorrow. is this normal?

Unfortunately incontinence is the most common complication following this kind of surgery. The more skilled and specialized the surgeon, the less risk of this occurring, but there is still that chance. : ( I would look into keeping diapers on Jace here moving forward because this issue is likely irreversible. There is a slight chance that if there is only partial and not complete nerve damage during the surgery that the nerve can slowly grow back over time. However that can take several months.
