Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 2 months old
Hi, today I took my dog to the vet because she has had a cough. We had an xray done and were able to rule out any heart problems. They said she has allergies and prescribed her a steroid/antihistamine. She has been fine until she went to eat and now has this consistent huff/cough then dry heaves. I am very concerned but not sure if it warrants a emergency trip or if she just ate too fast. She is acting relatively normal.

Is there any chance she could have been exposed to kennel cough in the last 2 weeks? Dog parks, Pet stores, groomer, did you visit a shelter? It sounds like you are describing kennel cough to me. If she seems uncomfortable or having trouble breathing then she should be evaluated immediately. Otherwise I would encourage you to call your veterinarian tomorrow. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
