My cat is peeing everywhere with blood. Is it a UTI or marking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 4 lbs

My male cat is a little over a year old. Recently he has started to pee in random places, not spraying but actually squatting and peeing. We’re expecting a baby in about a month, and i didn’t notice him doing this until the day I started folding and putting away baby clothes. I figured maybe he was marking his territory, but then again he isn’t actually SPRAYING. I also noticed the other day that there was a slight red tint to his urine. Not sure if he has a UTI or if he’s marking?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Salem. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. The red tinge to the urine is most likely blood. He will need to have a urine sample tested and possibly x-rays to look for bladder stones. Male cats are prone to crystals, stones or sludge in the urine that can result in a urinary tract obstruction. If this is not the case, it can be inflammation in the bladder due to stress of the baby. I hope this information helps!
