My dog ate chicken bones. Should I be worried about internal injuries?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 90 lbs

I just gave my male, German Shepard chicken wing bones after we fisnhed at dinner.... I was reading articles about how that is really dangerous. Should I be worried? Is there anyway to prevent the chicken bones cutting up his internal organs? Im really, really worried....

In the future, do not give chicken bones to your dog as they are hollow and can easily shatter, leading to what you've read about. If you just gave them within the last few hours, contacting a local vet to see if anything can be done ASAP may be beneficial, such as feeding some bread to help with bone transit. Otherwise, keeping an eye on him and watching for any signs of issues such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, painful abdomen, blood in vomit/abdomen and bringing him to a vet immediately if he shows those signs is best.
