My dog fell, can't walk, has fluid pocket on foot. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My German Shepard/ great prynees mix fell on Tuesday night coming up the steps to get on the porch And hit her leg. She hasn't been able to walk on it till today, she can put a little pressure on it but not much. And now I have noticed what looks like a fluid pocket on her foot. What can I do?

Hi! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. This appears to have been due to the trauma she suffered recently. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
