How to help my cat with a painful lump near his ear before vet?

Hi my male cat Junior has an appointment Wednesday but I'm afraid it may rupture or something before then.... A huge knot below around right side of the ear is there anything I can do to help him until then. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 5 lbs

It may be an abscess. It's ok if it ruptures sooner. When it does, the body can start to heal it and there will be a lot less pain. You can apply warm compresses, which may help it rupture sooner if it is close. Other than that, try to keep things like normal and prevent him from scratching at it.
