How to calm my anxious cat who is scared of everything and needy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7.5 lbs

My cat seems to have anxiety, is very needy with myself constantly by my side and is terrified of everything. I’ve had her since she was 10 weeks old and she is 2yo and it’s just getting worse. She scratches to go outside but if the older household cat isn’t outside with her she’s scratching desperately to get back in straight away. Is there anything that can be done to calm her? Also there is an 8yo child in the house and when there is noise the cat is horrified.

I would get Ruby a Feliway diffuser. It's a plug in that releases calming pheromones. I would pair that with a Sentry calming collar, which also releases calming pheromones when in contact with her skin. If these things do not help her, then she should see a vet to discuss using anti-anxiety medication. Best of luck.
