Dog limping on back leg after slipping. What pain relief can I give?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 55 lbs

My dog was outside for 5 min, I looked out the window and she wasn't putting any weight on her back leg. I had to carry her inside. I tried putting slight pressure on different points on her leg and she didn't yelp or anything. There's nothing stuck in her paw either. It's raining out so I think she may have slipped on the deck. She's in her kennel now and excepting treats, isn't whining, and doesn't seem to be in shock. What should I do? Anything I can give her for pain relief? Really worried!

Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give Penny. Many human ones are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I would rest her. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to potty on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. I would have her seen by a vet first thing Monday. Best of luck.
