Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Male | neutered | 3 years old
My dog has this bump/rush around his snout. It's going on like 2 weeks now. Started out smaller. And it has grown now.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bruno. When I see a red, raised and hairless mass such as his, there are two conditions that worry me. The first is a benign growth known as a histiocytoma. This is more common in young dogs and will usually spontaneously regress with a few months. The other consideration is a mast cell tumor. This is an aggressive form of skin cancer. Your veterinarian will be able to diagnose the mass by a procedure known as a fine needle aspirate. Cells are collected from the bump and evaluated under the microscope. Once a diagnosis is made, treatment can be pursued if necessary. I hope this information helps!

Since she is so young, it could be a histiocytoma which is a benign tumor that typically affects young dogs. She should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed. Histiocytomas usually go away with no treatment in 6 months but if the area is infected than she may need an antibiotic.
