My Siamese cat has tiny scabs on her neck. Are fleas the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Applehead Siamese | Female | 9 lbs

I am in the process of finding a vet. But in the meantime, could you you give me an educated guess for the following: my siamese cat has tiny scabs around her neck covered by her fur. She is declawed and I never see her scratch. She showed up at my door 3 months ago very traumatized so I don't know her history..

My first guess would be that she has fleas/flea allergy. Some cats are very sensitive to fleas and will have a huge allergic reaction (which looks like scabs around the head/face/ears and sometimes the lower back) with just one flea bite, so you might not even be able to find fleas. You can get over the counter flea medications, however she likely also needs antibiotics from the vet to clear up the scabbing if it is a flea allergy.
