My cat got fleas after neutering at the vet. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 25 days old | 10 lbs

Ok so I took my cat to get neutered about a weeek and a half ago and when he came back he’s been itching so bad at first I thought he’s just shedding but I saw something crawling in his fur my cat has never had fleas so this is new to me but turns out he got fleas from going to the vet . I don’t really know what to do should I make a complaint because this is absurd because now I gotta buy the stuff to clean him out! Need advice

Fleas can be picked up from almost anywhere, especially if Chandler goes outside at all, but I would still let the clinic know in case it is related. Thoroughly cleaning his environment, bedding, floorboards, etc is a good idea as flea eggs can lay dormant in the environment for several months, and warmer weather can cause them to hatch. A flea treatment such as Frontline or Advantage is also a good idea for killing fleas on him and preventing more from reinfecting him.
