My dog is licking her paw raw and losing fur. What's the cause?

My dog has lick her paw, to the extent removing her fur, what causes this?

If it is a single spot then there may be a wound or bite there that is irritating her. They can often lick it to try to heal it but really just make it worse. It can develop into a compulsive behavior if untreated. i would bathe and rinse the area to help soothe it. Look for any punctures or drainage. You can get an e collar from a pet store or vet clinic to stop her from licking it. I would also have your vet check it for medication to help break the cycle. You can apply cortisone cream to help also

    This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking.
