What shots, food, and safe flea shampoo for my 12-week-old puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 16 days old | 17 lbs

We just purchased a poodle puppy 12 weeks old from a guy in our town. He doesn’t have any papers on this pup. What shots should this pup have at this time? What’s the best food for him and can he be washed in flea and tick shampoo at his age?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congrats! T'Challa is adorable! He needs two DHPP vaccines 3-4 weeks apart. When the Rabies vaccine is given depends on your State's Laws, in PA it is between 12-16 weeks. He should be dewormed and you should have a stool checked. He is old enough to be started on heartworm prevention and topical and oral flea/tick medications. I like Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canin and Purina for food company's. I wish you all the best!
