My dog has a large bald spot that appeared overnight. What's wrong?

My wire fox terrier, Hero, has a rather large bald spot. His skin doesn’t seem irritated and he’s doing fine. Still concerns me because it’s a rather large bald spot that showed up in a day. What could be cause?

It is very red compared to the surround area. He may have an allergy to rubbing against something or getting bitten or stung rubbing it. I would give him a bath to help rinse the area. If it bothers him or continues to spread or get worse then I would him seen
