My puppy has a growing lump on his shoulder. Is it cancerous?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Male | neutered | 10 months and 13 days old | 78 lbs

I have moved to Queensland from Victoria 6 weeks ago and my 10 month old Labrador puppy has been exposed to more sun. I found a small lump approximately two weeks ago near his shoulder joint and it has since doubled in size. It appears as a big mole, but I’m an not sure if it needs to be removed in case it is cancerous? There is hair growing out of it and it is usually pink like his skin, but he has scratched it.

The rift of hair with a scab probably needs to be removed in order to clean the area better. It maybe a skin infection or a bite wound from something and not a cancerous growth. Your vet can examine it and take a sample and clean it up to see what the cause is. If it is just an infection then antibiotics will be needed
