My cat has a small black scab-like growth on his back. What is it?

My 3 year old domestic short haired cat has a very small scab like growth on his back. It’s very small, about the size of the needle head and similar to a human skin tag but more characteristic of a scab with black colouration. It doesn’t bother him from what I can tell and the only reason I noticed it was when I was scratching his back. i was just wondering what it is?

This could just be a benign growth or it could be a scab from an injury. If it isn't bothering him, keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger, doesn't heal, and/or starts to bother him, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.
