My dog's anal glands are leaking. How can I help him naturally?

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 74 lbs

What can i give for my dog to naturally express his anal glands? Hes been leaking for about 2 months now and his stool is firm. Ive tried psyllium husks, silica and pumpkin.

This can be a frustrating problem. I often recommend adding fiber but it sounds like this hasn't helped. If there is any evidence of inflammation or infection there is sometimes a link to allergies - you may want to ask your vet if they think a hypoallergenic food trial might help. Sometimes in situations where there are recurrent anal gland problems surgery is recommended to remove the glands, but there can be complications. I have had clients use Glandex in the past, but I'm not very familiar with this supplement.
