Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old

My small wiener dog just ate 1-3 drumstick chicken bones. She was walking around and hopped up on the couch right after. She’s about 10 years old. Please help!

Poor girl. I hope that this passed well. You can feed her 1 slice of bread twice a day to see if this can cushion the wings and help them easily travel through. You can also take her brisk brief walks for 15 min intervals to help her gut motility. IT can take several days to a week for the chicken bones to pass, so its best to monitor her stools. IF you see the following symptoms then its best to take her to your vet for a possible obstruction or perforation - excessive vomiting (even water), few feces +/- blood, decreased appetite, painful belly, severe lethargy, etc. I hope that your furry friend doesn't have any serious complications from the chicken bone ingestion. Best wishes and take care.

You can give Jaysie a slice of whole wheat bread now, and a slice with each meal. This may form a ball of ingesta around the bones, and cushion them as they pass through the GI tract. Monitor her for signs of obstruction and/or perforation of the intestinal tract including blood in the feces, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in the vomit, lethargy, and anorexia. If you see any of those signs, please take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

You can give Archie a slice of whole wheat bread now and one with every meal in hopes of cushioning the chicken bone as it passes through the GI tract. It may pass without a problem, but it can cause an obstruction and/or perforation of the GI tract. If he stops eating, starts vomiting, has blood in his feces, develops diarrhea, and/or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
