My cat has scabs and loses hair. What's wrong and how to help?

When I pet my cat I feel what seems to be little scabs, but they fall off with little tiny clumps of hair attached. Any idea what it is and how to treat it? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 17 lbs

He could have a dermatitis and/or a bacterial skin infection so he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. He may need an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and your vet can prescribe.
