My cat gets loose, runny stools when I switch his dry food. Why?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 9 lbs

I have a cat that is just over a year old. I jave tried mixing regular dry food in with his kitten chow a little at a time. After a week or so he gets loose and even runny stools. I have tried 3 different kinds of food.any suggestions?

I recommend you stick with canned food. That way your kitty does not get so much carbohydrate and also ingests more moisture. Offer him wet food in addition to the kitten food and then eventually feed the wet food only. I find cats have less problems with canned food (over their life time) than with dry food. It may also be a good idea to take a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian for a fecal exam to see whether your kitty is suffering from intestinal parasites such as worms and giardia.
