My dog has frequent sneezing, runny nose, and mucus. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Sam had pneumonia 3 years ago and shortly after that he gets sneeze attacks frequently. Sometimes it is triggered from sniffing too many things, other time it is completely random and out of no where. His nose does get runny and mucus does come out when he sneezes. Could this be a serious condition?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to allergies. There could also be a component of an upper respiratory infection. Medications can be used for both which would help. I do not thing this is related for he pneumonia episode 3 years ago. I recommend that you have Sam evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree with this possibility, they may prescribe medications at that time. Good luck and have a great day!
