Why does my dog have a new black spot on her eyelid? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 4 lbs

I’ve been able to get a better photo of her eye. She’s developed a black pigmentation on her eyelid. It’s not raised nor does it seem to bother her or change. What could this be? Is it normal? It’s kind of like that on her bottom left eyelid but that has been there for longer than I can remember. This one is new. She goes for her annual check up November 27th

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is very unlikely to be an issue and it is most likely normal. As long as it is not raised and there is not a mass effect, I would not be too concerned about this. Good luck and have a great day!
