My dog's ears are suddenly red and inflamed. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 49 lbs

Cooper's ears have suddenly become very red? Why is it so? Do I need to go to a vet. Otherwise his behaviour is normal. I cleaned it with salicylic acid solution by virbac which was recommended by the vet. It is redder than it appears in the pictures. Thanks in advance.

That could be caused by an inflammation commonly secondary either to an infection (yeast or mites) or secondary to an allergy. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics ear drops may be needed.
