My Pit Bull puppy has dry, itchy skin, scabs, rash, and an odor.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 6 days old | 25 lbs

I got a 3month old pit bull last week. I noticed he had 3 scabs on his face but thought it was from his siblings so didn't think much of it. Then I noticed he has extremely dry itchy flaky skin mainly from his head down his spine to his tail if you scratch longer than 30sec he will bleed. Where his skin is dry his skin appears to be a yellowish color. On the top of his head it looks like hes missing fur. He has a red rash under his chin, under arm pits and on belly. And he has an odor.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Snuggles! Common causes of a skin condition like this are: bacterial skin infection, demodex (non-contagious mite) and less likely ringworm. I would get him to you Vet next week to have him evaluated, bring stool, have his vaccines started, start Nexgard which is a monthly flea/tick medication that gets demodex and likely oral antibiotics. Good luck!
