Is a little mucus in my dog's poop normal? Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 70 lbs

Is this a normal a presence of mucus? My dog as normal solid stools and never much mucus, but I found this today and that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is fine and nothing to be concerned about. There is always going to be some degree of mucus in the stools so as long as it does not turn into diarrhea, there is no need to necessarily be concerned about this. Good luck and have a great day!
