Considering wet food for kitten? Will it cause loose stools or diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 2 days old | 6.6 lbs

My kitten is finally having solid stools on Taste of the Wild canyon river dry food. I know its recommend for cats to have wet food also, but I'm worried shes going to end up with loose stools again. I do see her drink water frequently throughout the day. I would have her on the wet version of her food now, but is this something I should be worried about? Does wet food cause loose stools in cats?

Cats don't have to have wet food as well, it's fine for them to have a dry food diet only. I only feed my cats a dry food diet. As long as she is drinking water frequently, there is no reason to put Cinderella on a wet food. A change in diet or adding in a new food can cause loose stools, but wet food per se doesn't cause it. I hope this helps.
