Pregnant cat nesting: How to tell when she's due to give birth?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 10 lbs

My cat is pregnant (excited ima be a grandma lol) and she's been showing for awhile now and yesterday we felt a kitten in her tummy. Well today she keeps going into our corner where we store boxes. About when do y'all think she is due?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The average cat pregnancy is about 63 days so if you know when she was mated (or even in heat) that can help you narrow it down. Otherwise, you can take a rectal temperature each day (good luck in a cat!) and when the temp decreases by about a degree, she is likely to start labor within 24 hours. The nesting behaviors you describe also hint that it could be soon- whether that is in 2 hours or a week is hard to say though. Best wishes to you and Angel!
