Is garlic in dog food safe? I thought garlic was toxic to dogs.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 11 years and 1 month old

I have been told all my life That garlic is toxic to dogs but I have noticed that garlic is listed as an ingredient in some pet foods. Why is this so? Is garlic really poisonous for dogs? Is the garlic in dog food okay?

Garlic can be toxic to dogs and cats but the toxicity is dose dependent, which is why some pet foods may have garlic added for flavoring. The amount of garlic in these foods is small and not in amounts adquate to cause toxicity. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=6137821
