My cat licked Frontline. Will the flea spot-on still be effective?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 months old

Last night I applied Frontline Combo spot on onto my cat, but as she was quite naughty during the application, I believe I didnt apply it in the right spot. She licked some of it and hypersalivated for a minute and that passed. I am concerned that the spot on will not work correctly and it is very important that it does bc we had a flea infestation 3 weeks ago. Will it work efficiently?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is okay that she licked some of it. It isn't harmful and she likely didn't ingest enough to decrease it's effect. I am sure you got it on well enough. You can re-apply as early as 3 weeks. Personally I do not think Frontline works well for fleas anymore. I like Comfortis, Advantage, Bravecto and the Seresto collar. I wish you the best!

It will still be effective, however put a t-shirt on your cat so he cannot lick it off for a few hours. Make sure the spoton was put on the skin inbetween the hair rather than just into the hair coat.
