My 3-week-old kitten's belly skin is peeling. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 16 days old

I am taking care of an orphaned kitten found at a town dump. I’ve had her since she was less than a week old and now I’m assuming she’s almost three weeks. She recently seems to be peeling on the belly region but doesn’t seem to have round spots like ring worm. I’m not sure what it is. Wasn’t sure if stimulating the area or the fact that she occasionally pees in her crate would cause it. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hello, sorry to hear about Hope. It looks like she does indeed have a bit of skin irritation in her inguinal region. This could be attributed to laying in her urine while in the crate. Although, other causes may include ringworm or fleas. I would recommmend that you monitor the area for any redness of the skin, itchiness, or discharge. If the area is getting worse, then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian to obtain any necessary medications. Hope this helps and best of luck.
