What are these yellow scabs on my puppy's belly? Are they contagious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 27 days old

My 9 week old bu husky mixed breed has scabs on the hairless part of her belly in the groin area. The scabs have become a yellowish color. She has been treated for round worms and had her first puppy shot 3 weeks ago She has a vet appointment in a week but I have another dog and I'm worried that it may be contagious to him. Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. This is not likely contagious. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!
