My unfixed dogs are fighting. Will spaying/neutering help aggression?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 7 months old | 70 lbs

I have a 6 year old female yellow lab that is showing aggresion toward a 1.5 year old pug. Neither is fixed. Would getting them fixed help with the aggresion. Currently we are keeping them separate until we can get the lab fixed

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, it is probable that getting them fixed will help. I would say that you may not get the full effect until both are fixed. I would also note that some residual behavioral aggression may remain. This can usually be improved by some anti-anxiety medication and training. Best wishes to you and the pups!
