My kitten has black stuff in its ears. Is it ear mites or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my kitten is 7 weeks old and I’ve just got back from the beta where he’s been treated with fleas but I have noticed he has black bits in his ears, what could this be?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The black bites could be evidence of ear mites or an ear infection. You may consider taking him in to see his veterinarian for a check up. Your veterinarian will take a sample of the debris in the ears and look at it underneath a microscope to determine if ear mites or another infection is present so he can be appropriately treated. I hope this helps!
