My neutered dog gets frequent erections. Is this normal behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 12 days old | 68 lbs

Pete had cryptorchidism and was fixed, but he gets red rockets over anything. He will look at something, sit, lay down, roll over, anything and his buddy comes out to play. It isn’t out constantly, but very often. I don’t know if this is a normal behavior or something that we should be correcting. If it is something to correct, I don’t know how to.

It can take several months for the testosterone to completely leave the body after being neutered. Unfortunately there is no way to correct the behavior other than just making sure to not encourage it. Give it a few months and see what happens!
