What is this weird bump on my dog's bum near her private area?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months and 21 days old | 36 lbs

I just noticed this spot on Nash’s bum last night. Looks like maybe a skin tag, but not. Its between her urethra and anus, closer to the urethra. The first photo, its kinda hard to see, it’s toward the bottom of the white hair. The 2nd photo is zoomed in to the spot. The 3rd photo is profile shot, its at the tip of the sort of protruding area. These photos may not be helpful at all so let me know if you’d like others. Im not too concerned, it just seems to be a weird bump in a weird spot.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Nashville. It is a little difficult to tell, but it does look like a small mass as opposed to a wound. Young dogs can develop a benign growth known as a histiocytoma that will spontaneously regress on its own in several months. Unfortunately, there is a cancerous growth called the mast cell tumor that can have a similar appearance. The veterinarian is able to differentiate by looking at cells under the microscope. You will what to have her evaluated especially if the bump enlarges. I hope this information helps!
