New kitten not peeing or pooping after 24 hours. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 11 days old | 2 lbs

I've just adopted a 3-4 month old kitten who's been living outside. Since I've had her, which has been almost 24 hours, she hasn't peed or pooped once. But she has eaten and drank water. I don't know what to do and I'm worried something is wrong.

There is no need to be worried, keep her aware of the litter box location several times a day, it's normal for a new kitten to behave this way in the first few days after adoption, don't worry she will be fine.

If Shadow seems to be bright and content I would not worry overly. Sometimes it takes cats a fair while to settle into a new home and feel comfortable to go to the toilet. Taking her to the vet in the midst of settling in may set her back, so as long as she seems well I would wait.
